After removing the “Bial” tents... this is what the Prime Minister’s Office announced
Fady Mahouly
The Central Operations Room of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers announced that, following the establishment of the ceasefire and the continued return of numbers of displaced people to their homes, the removal of all tents erected on the Beirut waterfront was completed today, in addition to the removal of random tents in the capital, and ensuring the transfer of the small remaining number of displaced people to approved shelter centers.
The Chamber explained that this step comes within the framework of completing the state’s plan to remove unapproved communities that were established during the period of displacement, in parallel with providing shelter alternatives to families who are still unable to return to their areas.
She pointed out that the operation included the removal of about 200 tents that were standing on the Beirut waterfront, while 16 families who were still residing there were transferred to shelter centers, as part of completing the plan to end the presence of temporary camps in the region.
The Central Operations Room confirmed that it will continue working to provide shelter and basic care centers for families who are unable to return at the current stage, until appropriate conditions are available for that, in a way that preserves their dignity and secures their basic needs, indicating that it is also studying additional options to provide decent shelter until a sustainable return of these families to their villages and regions is achieved.
